![]() LETTER FROM DEBBIE GANTZ, DIRECTOR OF ALUMNI
On behalf of the Mississippi Delta Community College Alumni Association, I would like to thank the MDCC Foundation for its support and generosity. The Foundation has played a large role this year in helping the Alumni Association achieve many of its goals. On a personal note, I would also like to thank everyone for the kindness, support, and encouragement that I have been shown during my first year as Alumni Director. This year the tradition of yearly alumni chapter meetings was continued. The Leflore/Carroll Chapter, Washington/Sharkey/Issaquena Chapter, Sunflower/Humphreys Chapter, Bolivar/Coahoma Chapter, Lone Star Chapter, and the Gulf Coast Chapter all held annual meetings. In October, the first “RADGRAD” Reunion was held for graduates of the Radiologic Technologic Program. Due to the overwhelming response, this will become a yearly event and a new alumni tradition. The number of dues paying alumni has grown and our membership rolls continue to increase. The MDCC Alumni Association and the MDCC Foundation attended the annual Atlanta’s Mississippi in the Park event and had the distinction of being the only two year college in attendance. We hosted a viewing party for the Cutthroat Kitchen episode which starred MDCC’s culinary director, Chef David Crews. Trojan Tailgating, an established MDCC tradition was held before each home football game. The tailgate facilities were refurbished and the Tailgate Cooking Crew had at their disposal an updated kitchen. Together, the Scramble for Scholarships Golf Tournament which was held during last year’s Homecoming weekend and the tournament held recently during this year’s homecoming have netted over $10,000. We are well on the way to achieving our goal of an endowed alumni scholarship. Also, the number of alumni scholarships increased this year. Chapter scholarships were awarded by the Sunflower/Humphreys Chapter and the Leflore/Carroll Chapter. In addition, the Alumni Association awarded several scholarships. In all, a total number of seven scholarships were awarded. Again, thank you for the opportunity to serve as your MDCC Alumni Director. We are headed in the right direction, and I look forward to our continued partnership as we support the college. |
