Mississippi Delta Community College (MDCC) has received a $200,000 donation from an anonymous donor. “This is a historic gift that is going to change a lot of students’ lives,” said Dr. Tyrone Jackson, MDCC President.

MDCC received a call several weeks ago from an intermediary representing the anonymous donor. They asked the college to submit a proposal on how the funds would be used and the rest is history. All money will be directed towards student scholarships and assistance. There are three areas of emphasis: Workforce Training, Student Leadership, and Non-Traditional Students.

The MDCC Development Foundation acts as the fundraising arm of the college and is tasked with handling the disbursement of the donated funds. The primary purpose of the Foundation is to raise funds to support both the college and its students.

Jim Aycock, Executive Director of the MDCC Development Foundation, said, “Single scholarship donations of this size are very rare, and this is a first for MDCC. We are forever grateful that our students were chosen, because this is truly for them. On a normal year, the Foundation will award $100,000 in scholarships. This donation will triple that for our current calendar year.”

Scholarships will begin being awarded this semester and will conclude in the fall.
