Week of Giving Thanks: Day 2
Day 2 of the MDCC Foundation’s Week of Giving Thanks:
the Impact Scholarship Fund
MOORHEAD, MS — As we continue our Week of Giving Thanks, the Mississippi Delta Community College Development Foundation is proud to shine a spotlight on a remarkable act of generosity that will uplift both students and the educators who have shaped their lives in meaningful ways.
In September 2025, an anonymous donor contributed an extraordinary $27,500 gift to support multiple areas of student success at MDCC. This contribution included:
$20,000 designated to establish and grow the Impact Scholarship Fund
$5,000 for the Emergency Student Support Fund
$2,500 to support an upcoming student and teacher recognition event
This gift launches one of the Foundation’s most meaningful and mission-driven initiatives to date.
A Scholarship That Honors Both Students and Teachers
The Impact Scholarship Program stands apart as a truly special scholarship model—one that not only rewards students for academic achievement and financial need but also elevates and celebrates the educators who have played a defining role in their success.
At the heart of the program is the belief that great teachers create lasting ripple effects: mentoring, challenging, and encouraging students in ways that echo far beyond the classroom. The anonymous donor’s vision is clear:
to honor the educators who change lives.
A distinctive feature of this scholarship is the required “Impact Teacher” Essay—a 300- to 500-word reflection in which applicants share the story of the teacher or professor who made the greatest difference in their life. This storytelling element reinforces the program’s central philosophy: that educational excellence is strengthened through gratitude, recognition, and relationships.
A Celebration of Influence and Opportunity
Both the scholarship recipients and the educators they honor will be invited to a special recognition luncheon, creating a meaningful moment where students can express their gratitude directly to those who inspired their journey.
The Impact Scholarship will be available through the MDCC Foundation Scholarship Application, opening February 1, 2026.
As with all endowed and long-term scholarship initiatives, our goal is to continue building this fund so it may empower students and celebrate educators for years to come.

Reflecting on the Significance of This Gift
Interim Director of College Advancement and Alumni Affairs, Alan Crews, expressed deep gratitude for the donor’s vision and emphasized the scholarship’s purpose in strengthening both students and educators:
“The Impact Scholarship Fund is more than financial support—it is a celebration of the educators who shape lives right here in the Mississippi Delta. By recognizing the incredible teachers in our seven-county service district and beyond who inspire and transform the lives of students, we honor their legacy of impact while empowering the next generation to carry it forward. Together, we are creating a ripple effect of opportunity—impacting students, uplifting teachers, and strengthening the Delta.”
As we continue through this Week of Giving Thanks, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to the anonymous donor whose vision recognizes both achievement and influence. Join us tomorrow as we highlight yet another story of generosity and impact shaping the future of MDCC.
